The North-East of Victoria coming together to show our support

1

This year in October YMH were once again the proud sponsor of The GDAY Group Conference, this year in the warm climate of Darwin.

This Conference was building to be a conference like no other after missing the opportunities the past couple of years due to covid to get together with other Holiday Parks and Trade partners. As the excitement grew with the lead up to the event which involved information sessions, guest speakers and many social activities, Mother Nature was to make her own plans with continuous rain fall within Victoria and NSW. As rivers rose quickly throughout the Victorian High Country and large amounts of water flowed into our main water ways from our major dams, such as the Dartmouth, Hume, Eppalock, and Eildon just to name a few. As a result of this huge volume of water, some Holiday Parks had no time to prepare whilst others had limited time and could only watch and wait for this beast to slowly creep up on them.

While, with some guilt, we gathered in Darwin at the conference, whilst many of our industry colleges remained at their parks defending and/or cleaning up due to raising water. At YMH we have seen firsthand the devastation that an uncontrolled natural event can do to homes, businesses, and community but also the effects on a person mentally. During the conference we had our friends who were unable to attend the conference from the flood effected North-East Victoria region in the fore front of our minds. We made the decision to host an evening to show our support in Moama and to bring Darwin to them.

Last Wednesday on the 7th of December 2022 we held “Darwin in Moama”. This was a casual gathering open to all Vic Park Members and Associated Trades, but especially the ones that missed out on attending Darwin. Everyone was invited to come together to share stories, talk about their experience with the floods, share a meal and a few drinks. We were thrilled to have GDAY Group Head of Licensed Parks & Rewards David Smith & GDAY Group Business Development Manager Ethan Wallace, join us which was an enormous effort as they travelled from Adelaide.

We spent the evening with over 50 guests enjoying the Moama Shenanigans. Keeping in theme of the Darwin event we witnessed crocodiles in the pool, GDAY thongs and trademark blue shirts & aprons (not to mention the uninvited mozzie’s).

A huge thank you to Ken, Janine, and Bianca Hurn from the Murray River Holiday Park for hosting the evening. Their Park had just reopened with the sandbags still in place, Murray River Holiday Park stepped up and showed us the true meaning of resilience and determination, but more so about caring and support for their fellow Holiday Parks.

We would also like to sincerely thank the team from Vic Parks for their wonderful support and help in getting this event together quickly. It was great to see their Manager Communications and Public Affairs Rhiannon Mahony there to enjoy the evening.

A special thank you goes the National Sales Manager Drew and the entire team at Coolabah Turf for their generous donation of 4 x $1,000.00 Vouchers. All vouchers were given away during the evening to Holiday Parks to use when getting their parks back on their feet.

Finally, to our fellow industry trades that made this possible, the relationship that YMH have with you all is amazing and as soon as this idea was mentioned, each of these companies asked how they could help and were on board with us straight away. THANK YOU to our friends at Jayco, KMac Power Heads, Aubin Environmental, Newbook, Microguard, Scope Project Consulting, RMS and Tower Business and Real Estate; We couldn’t have done it without your support.

We hope all the Parks who attended the evening who were either directly affected by the floods or not enjoyed the evening and found must needed support from our industry friends. We hope to hold another event early in 2023, so for those that were unable to attend we hope to see you then.

With over 25 years within the Holiday Park industry supporting and sponsoring events, YMH have experienced tornado’s, bushfires and floods and we wish to offer our help & experience where we can. The team at YMH hope that each Holiday Park and business affected by the floods are back on their feet to trade as quickly as possible.

We have joined forces with our fellow Vic Parks members to make this evening possible
